All photo sessions are unique, memorable and special in their own way - it’s one of the greatest joys of working with all different types of families, in all different circumstances and celebrations.

Immediately, I just could feel there was something extra special about the Johnston family, from the moment I was warmly invited into their home. Grown daughters Shaelyn and Courtney had gifted a family session for their parents, and we met when the full family was together during summer holidays… which also just so happened to be during one of the hottest days of the year amidst a sweltering heat wave and warning.

Despite the soaring temperatures, not wanting to miss the opportunity to photograph the entire family together, we went ahead, capturing memories with the grandkids, frolikcing in their backyard and endless laughs, all while melting a little bit.

Once all combinations of shots had been taken, and everyone was feeling the heat, their pool looked just too good of a photo opportunity to pass up…

… so they jumped in - clothes on and all!

We had one chance to get ‘the’ shot, and everyone fully committed. What resulted was some of my all time favourite, candid in the moment images of genuine laughter and family bonding splashing together.

And of course, not being one to be able to pass up a pool swim, I soon joined them (clothes and all!) post-photos. Thank you to this wonderful family for absolutely the best night, memories and photos to last a lifetime - I’m still smiling!
